A Childhood Rooted in Nature

Senaka was born on 20 March 1951 in an illustrious family of Sri Lanka, which produced two Prime Ministers.

Senaka Senanayake quickly became known as a child prodigy for his artistic prowess. He achieved early fame when his work was first exhibited in Colombo in the late 1950s. He then held his first international one-man show in New York at the age of ten. He continued to paint and, as a teenager, held numerous exhibitions in Sri Lanka as well as Europe, the USA and Asia. He later studied at Yale, gaining his degree in Art and Architecture. Following his studies, Senanayake made the pivotal decision to return to his native Sri Lanka. This return profoundly shaped his artistic direction, allowing him to immerse himself in the island’s unique biodiversity. Currently residing in Colombo, he continues to use the flora and fauna of his home country as inspiration for his work, fostering appreciation for his surroundings and making him one of the best-known artists of the region.

Art Style

Senanayake’s paintings are gorgeously positive, his forests wearing saturated runway colours, his birds right out of an ancient fable.
